Creative Department: Website Update - 4th December '09
Well, it's been a busy, challenging and exciting month for us here in the creative department. As you can probably
see from the site, we've been hard at work with an almost complete revamp of the DigiSHOW section and some other tweaks/changes
are in the pipeline. The changes were driven in no small part by the recent work we've been doing on touch screen interfaces...more
on this another time.
The key element that triggered the change was ergonomics. We wanted a website where the information that you commonly need or
want is right in front of you when you visit the page, navigation is more intuitive and the information is presented in stages,
the initial first contact, key features, summaries, pictures etc, then a more in-depth look, and finally the full specification sheets.
The use of Flash to create micro-sites within the existing framework allows for a far greater amount of information to be contained
in one rectangular area than standard HTML layouts can provide (and allows us to flex our creative muscles a little!) The product
information is now much more accessible, no more scrolling or reading through text to find what you need, it's all there at your
fingertips. Also being worked on is a new section to showcase our creative and design capabilities, which should be in place before
the new year. You'll also have noticed our festive theme on the home page.
It's been good fun creating this little lot and a good excuse to polish our flash skills, learn
Action Script 3.0 a little more
in-depth and generally have a restructure and do some housekeeping.
We're not done yet - this is simply phase one of a series of major changes to the website. Keep popping back over the next few
weeks and see how it's all taking shape. There's exciting new things on the way...not to let the cat out of the bag, but this month
will mean a lot of work filming with the video camera. We're also working hard on a section for tutorials and plenty more exciting
odds and ends to make our site not only more attractive to new visitors, but more useful and informative to our existing customers as well.
